Jim Freedman
Jim is a chemist by training. He worked in the imaging and printing industries (Polaroid Corp, Spectra/Dimatix, Presstek) for many years before working at MIT’s Technology Licensing Office for 15 years prior to his retirement. At MIT, he covered patent protection and licensing for a broad portfolio of inventions from the departments of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Material Science, Mechanical Engineering, AstroAero and PSFC. During his TLO tenure, he worked with over 200 start-ups, the majority of which are still functioning today.
Jim takes particular pleasure from working with faculty and young entrepreneurs as they consider their roles in, and paths for, moving ideas out of their labs and into the marketplace. In parallel to direct support, he has also been a long-time contributor to the MIT entrepreneurial ecosystem via efforts for the Deshpande Center, the J-WAFS Program, MITEI, SMART, MIT Water Club, ILP. iTeams and other programs in the Boston area.
